The Medical Stores Department (MSD) operates a comprehensive network of strategically located warehouses across Tanzania, ensuring the efficient storage, management, and distribution of essential health commodities to all regions of the country.
As an ISO-certified institution, MSD upholds the highest standards of Good Storage Practices (GSP) and continuously invests in modernizing its facilities to meet the evolving requirements of diverse product categories — from pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to laboratory reagents and cold chain products.
As part of its ongoing infrastructure expansion, MSD has established two state-of-the-art, technology-driven warehouses in Mtwara and Dodoma, offering 4,800 and 7,200 square meters of storage space respectively. These modern facilities have collectively expanded MSD’s national warehousing capacity by 12,000 square meters, significantly strengthening the efficiency and resilience of its supply chain.
Further developments are underway in Geita, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Ruvuma, and Arusha, reflecting MSD’s continued commitment to enhancing national accessibility and equitable health service delivery.
All MSD warehouses are equipped with advanced cold chain storage systems, ensuring the safe handling and preservation of temperature-sensitive health commodities such as vaccines and biological products. Supported by automated inventory management systems and robust logistics operations, MSD guarantees consistent product availability across its entire network — reinforcing its dedication to efficiency, reliability, and excellence in health supply chain management.
