Our IT systems are now interconnected

When MSD was established, its procurement, storage and distribution of health products were carried out without the use of IT systems where employees used special papers used to order and store records of health products such as Bin Card, Combined Requisition and Issue note (CRIN). In 1998, the use of IT began to be used to enhance the performance of its functions in the area of financial management using a system called Navision Financials.

In addition, in 2001, a feasibility study was conducted on the performance and operation of MSD activities and thus the Orion ERP system was officially established at the headquarters in Dar es Salaam and connected all Zones through the TTCL network in 2002. This system was used to carry out procurement, storage, distribution and financial management activities. In 2012, MSD made a system change from Orion ERP and introduced the Epicor9 ERP system which was using the most modern technology to improve its services due to the growth of the Institute's activities. This continued to improve the use of IT through funding from USAID and Global Fund partners.

From July 2020, MSD began using the Epicor10 system which is an improvement on the previous Epicor9 system. Due to the growing demand in implementing healthcare supply chain functions, MSD is in the final stages of building a new ERP system.
