The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and AIDS is Satisfied with the Performance of MSD.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and AIDS Affairs has said it is satisfied with the performance of the Medicines Depot (MSD) and the plans for implementing its responsibilities, including the production of medicines to reduce the need to buy medicines abroad.
This was stated in Dodoma by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Health and AIDS Affairs, Hon. Stansilaus Nyongo, after receiving a report on the performance and responsibilities of the Medicines Depot (MSD), where he has urged MSD to increase efficiency, high-quality innovation by ensuring that health products are sufficient and distributed.
On the other hand, the Chairman has advised MSD to monitor and collect debts to ensure that it operates properly without affecting the supply chain of health products, adding that they will continue to advise the government to enable MSD to obtain capital so that it can operate independently.
“The drug depot has now been given the additional responsibility of producing health products, making it now able to carry out four functions, which are to produce, purchase, maintain and distribute health products to all public health care facilities in the country”_ explained Hon. Nyongo.
For his part, the Minister of Health Hon. Ummy Mwalimu has commended the Director General of MSD, Mavere Tukai, for his strong leadership in the institution and facilitating the availability of health products to increase and deliver them to the facilities on time.
The Director General of MSD, Mavere Tukai, has explained that they have already established a subsidiary company that will enter into agreements with local and foreign private companies to invest in factories producing various health products in the country, and four members of the Board of the subsidiary company have been appointed.
