Parliamentary Committee on Health and AIDS, Satisfied with the Implementation of the Gloves Project - MSD Idofi
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health and AIDS Affairs, expresses satisfaction with the implementation steps of the MSD Handball Factory project, located in Idofi, Makambako, Njombe Region.
This was stated on August 7, 2024 by the Chairperson of the committee, Hon. Christina Mnzava, when the committee visited the project with the aim of reviewing and receiving progress reports on the implementation of the project.
Hon. Mnzava on behalf of the committee, commended the various efforts taken by MSD, in developing the project, which has provided employment to the people of the area.
In addition, the committee has urged MSD to ensure that it comes up with a solid plan and strategy to install machines for other pharmaceutical factories, located in the area, in order to fulfill the government's commitment to introduce such machines.
Initially presenting the project report on behalf of the Director General of MSD, the Manager of Planning, Evaluation and Monitoring of MSD Hassan Ally, explained that the Factory has the capacity to produce 80 million gloves per year, compared to the country's needs of 58 million per year, which costs approximately 16.7 billion.
He added that as of June 2024, investment in the Factory has reached a total of 12.4 billion, which are investment and operating costs for the first year.
He also emphasized that in the past 5 months, the factory has produced a total of 4 million gloves, worth more than 1.14 billion shillings, which have begun entering the market in August 2024.
The Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Godwin Mollel, has commended the Government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, for the significant investment it continues to make in the Health sector, including the establishment of industries.
In addition, he highlighted the progress achieved within the short period of his administration, while emphasizing that the government will continue to ensure that all projects are implemented.
