The government through the Tanzania Medical Distribution (MSD) expects to distribute a total of one and a half million mosquito nets to citizens at the household level in Shinyanga Region, as a special campaign aimed at combating and eradicating malaria in the country.

This was stated today, February 8, 2025, by the Acting Director of Supply and Operations of MSD, Mr. Victor Sungusia, during the launch of the mosquito net distribution exercise in the region, through a special campaign (TMC) under the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP).

Sungusia said MSD has long experience in the distribution of health products, so they will carry out the role with great professionalism and efficiency within the scheduled time.

"As per our duties according to the Law, our job is to produce, purchase, maintain and distribute health products in the country, and that is what brought us here today, the nets have already been purchased and there are enough, they are just waiting to be distributed" said Sungusia

Sungusia added that MSD has the enabling infrastructure including enough vehicles and highly qualified drivers, who are ready to carry out the distribution.

"We expect to distribute these nets in all six Councils of this region, and we have more than 600 stations throughout the region, and we will do this work in just 10 days, so we are ready to distribute". Sungusia stressed.

Sungusia has asked leaders and citizens of Shinyanga region in every district from the top to the bottom, to give MSD cooperation so that they can complete the exercise within the scheduled time.

In addition, he has assured all the citizens of the region who registered that they will receive their mosquito nets, as MSD will do the work with great honesty, and so far MSD has received all the mosquito nets needed in the Region, so they should remove their doubts.

Initially, officially launching the exercise, Shinyanga Regional Commissioner Hon. Anamringi Macha has urged the citizens of the Region to focus on the correct use of mosquito nets so that the government's role in eradicating Malaria can be fulfilled, instead of using such nets for inappropriate purposes such as raising chickens, or fishing.

He has also urged the community to get rid of the misconception that such nets reduce male potency, as this issue is not true, and was started by people with malicious intentions, thus urging citizens to use such nets as they are safe
