MSD Director General, Highlights MSD's Achievements Under Phase Six

The Director General of MSD, Mr. Mavere Tukai today on 17/10/2022, met with journalists in Dodoma Region and gave a report on the achievements of the Medicines Depot (MSD) under the sixth phase government, led by Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Mr. Mavere said that in the 2022/23 financial year, MSD has continued to make operational improvements as directed by Hon. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, with these changes aimed at strengthening access to health products as well as good governance.
He said that the sixth phase government for this financial year 2022/23, allocated 200 billion shillings for the purchase of health products in the country, where as of this month October 2022, MSD has already received 57 billion shillings for the first quarter.
In terms of purchasing health products, MSD has continued to adhere to procedures, regulations and laws, to enhance the availability of health products in the country.
He added that the procurement takes into account quality and value for money, where so far in the past four months, MSD has entered into active and long-term contracts for more than 1,000 products, to accelerate the availability of those products.
Mr. Mavere says MSD continues to distribute health products to all 7,153 government health centers through its 10 strategically located zones, where currently the distribution is done six times a year, from the previous four times.
In addition, in terms of health product production, MSD has continued with the production of masks, while the Idofi industrial project in Makambako is in the final stages, where upon completion it will produce surgical & examination gloves, tablets, capsules, syrups, and ointments & creams.
These projects under MSD will help enhance access to health products in the country. In another step, he added that MSD has continued to create an enabling environment for local and foreign investors to participate in the construction of industries in the country through a partnership between the Government and the Private Sector (PPP), where so far the process is going well, after the completion of the feasibility study.
