Cold Chain Services

 

MSD provides dedicated cold chain deliveries of vaccines and other related cold chain products to over 6,000 health facilities across the country.  MSD operates as per agreed SOPs for stock receipts, packing, transportation, and delivery of products to its customers.

Each cold chain staff receives comprehensive training which is updated annually or when changes occur. All our cold chain storage facilities are maintained, monitored by a special computerized system and are located strategically across the country.

Central Vaccine-Located at Keko Headquarters Dar-es-salaam, stores all vaccines as per the MSD catalogue and other cold pharmaceuticals donated by different Partners. Central Vaccine storage feeds all other cold storage in our zones and sales points.

The Central Vaccine storage has the capacity of temperature levels in degree centigrade 0-8 cubic meters 550. Freezers with temperature level in degree centigrade 0-8 cubic meters 52 (WiB cold rooms). Freezers with temperature levels in degree centigrade 0-8 cubic meters 282, and Central Chillers with temperature levels in degree centigrade 18-26 cubic meters 120 are also used.

To ensure effective cold chain service delivery, MSD vehicles are supervised under validated cold chain conditions. The cold chain specialized trucks have the capacity of maintaining the temperature throughout the transportation and they are monitored through a tracking system.  The system enables emergency contact ability to ensure rapid response during the breakdown.

Medical Stores Department (MSD) was established by the Act of Parliament No.13 of 1993 as an autonomous department under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children responsible for developing, maintaining and managing an efficient and cost effective system of procurement, storage and distribution of approved medicines and medical supplies required for use by all public health facilities.
