MSD Rolls Out Nationwide Training to Boost Driver Safety and Professionalism
The Medical Stores Department (MSD) has conducted a two-day training programme for all its drivers from Headquarters and its ten Zones, aimed at enhancing professionalism, road safety, and the quality of services they provide.
Speaking while opening the training, the Director General of the Medical Stores Department, Mavere Tukai, said drivers are a critical part of the health commodities supply chain and therefore must carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity, and adherence to road safety laws to ensure health products reach citizens on time.
"You are ambassadors of the Medical Stores Department (MSD) when you are on the road. Every trip you make carries the responsibility of ensuring health services reach citizens on time. It is your duty to drive safely, protect institutional property, and continue learning in order to increase the efficiency of your work," said Tukai.
During the training, participants received education through various topics presented by experts from different institutions, including road safety laws, fuel efficiency, proper use of Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles, customer service, public service ethics, the fight against corruption, investment education through UTT AMIS, as well as education on the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF).
The training was also attended by the Director of Supply Chain and Operations, the Director of Administration and Human Resources, the Zonal Coordinator (who is also the Manager of the Dodoma Zone), along with other MSD leaders, demonstrating the institution's commitment to continued investment in the development and integrity of its staff.
Closing the training, the National Traffic Police Commander, William Mkonda, urged the drivers to put into practice the knowledge they had gained by observing road safety laws, discipline, and professionalism at all times while carrying out their duties.
"The knowledge you have gained will only be meaningful if it is reflected in your actions. Driving in accordance with the law does not only protect your own lives, but also protects the lives of other road users and ensures institutional property is safeguarded. Being drivers who prioritize safety is a significant contribution to the nation's development," said the Commander.
The training is part of MSD's ongoing strategy to build the capacity of its staff in order to improve service delivery efficiency, strengthen safety in transportation operations, and ensure that medicines and health commodities reach citizens on time, with the required quality and safety standards.
