MSD Dodoma Marks Pharmacy Week by Donating Safe Blood
Dodoma, June 2026 – Staff of the Medical Stores Department (MSD) Dodoma Zonal Office, led by pharmacists, joined other healthcare stakeholders in commemorating Pharmacy Week, observed from 10 to 16 June 2026.
The celebrations were marked by a range of community-focused activities, including a voluntary blood donation campaign. In support of national efforts to ensure the availability of safe blood for patients in need of medical care, several MSD Dodoma staff members voluntarily donated blood.
The initiative also formed part of the observance of World Blood Donor Day, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation in saving lives, particularly for emergency patients, mothers experiencing childbirth complications, children, and other patients requiring blood transfusions.
Pharmacy Week is commemorated annually to recognize the vital contribution of the pharmacy profession to the healthcare system. The event is accompanied by public awareness campaigns and educational activities focusing on the rational use of medicines, medication safety, pharmaceutical services, and the critical role pharmacists play in improving public health outcomes.
Through these activities, pharmacy professionals continue to educate communities on the importance of proper medicine use, adherence to healthcare professionals’ instructions, and the contribution of pharmaceutical services to disease prevention and management.
The 2026 Pharmacy Week is being observed under the theme:“Pharmacy: The Key to the Health Sector Vision 2050.”
The theme highlights the strategic role of the pharmacy profession in advancing the healthcare sector through the provision of quality, safe, and effective health products, while supporting the achievement of Tanzania’s Vision 2050 goals for improved healthcare services and better health outcomes.
MSD remains committed to working closely with stakeholders across the health sector to ensure the continuous availability of quality health commodities and to contribute to the improvement of healthcare services and the well-being of all Tanzanians.
