MSD and Dar es Salaam Regional Health Leadership Discuss Strengthening the Health Commodities Supply Chain

The Medical Stores Department (MSD) Dar es Salaam Zone has held a special meeting with regional health leaders, aimed at holding in-depth discussions on the best ways to strengthen the availability of health commodities, starting from the stage of timely order submission from health facilities, to the stage of timely delivery of those requirements to the relevant facilities as scheduled.

This important meeting was organized as part of MSD's ongoing efforts to improve collaboration with health sector stakeholders, in order to ensure that the supply system for medicines, medical equipment and reagents becomes stable, efficient, and capable of meeting the actual needs of citizens in a timely manner.

MSD's delegation at the meeting was led by the Dar es Salaam Zone Manager, Betia Kaema, accompanied by MSD experts overseeing the Logistics Management System (LMS), who play a significant role in coordinating the entire process of ordering and distributing health commodities between MSD and service facilities.

On the Dar es Salaam Region side, the delegation was represented by various professional leaders including the Regional Pharmacist (RPharm), the Regional Laboratory Technologist (RLT), along with District Pharmacists (DPharms) and District Laboratory Technologists (DLTs) from various districts in the region.

Through in-depth discussions held during the meeting, the two sides jointly agreed to further strengthen collaboration and communication between MSD and health leaders at the regional and district levels, together with the health facilities under their jurisdiction.

These agreements aim to ensure that information on health commodity requirements (forecasts) is prepared with a high degree of accuracy, reflecting the actual consumption patterns at the respective facilities, and submitted to MSD within the scheduled timeframe. This step will enable MSD to plan its supply arrangements effectively, ensure that available commodities align with the actual needs of facilities, and thereby avoid challenges of shortages of essential health commodities or distribution occurring outside the planned delivery calendar.

Furthermore, it was noted that a good balance between timely submission of requests and efficient distribution is a key pillar in ensuring health services reach citizens without obstacles, particularly in areas with high demand for medicines and medical equipment such as Dar es Salaam Region.

This collaboration aligns with MSD's core mission of ensuring the sustainable availability of medicines, medical equipment and reagents to citizens, in a timely manner and at affordable costs, through a supply chain system that is robust, efficient and effective.

MSD has continued to emphasize the importance of close collaboration with all health sector stakeholders at various levels, including regional and district leaders, to ensure that the country's health commodities supply system becomes more productive, capable of addressing emerging challenges, and ultimately contributing to building a strong, resilient and sustainable health system for the nation.
