MSD to Save TZS 2.3 Billion Through Construction of A New Dar es Salaam Zonal Warehouse
The Medical Stores Department (MSD) expects to save more than TZS 2.3 billion annually, funds that have previously been spent on renting private warehouses for the storage of health commodities.
This assessment was provided by MSD management following the official handover of the project site and construction permit to Hainan International Company of China for the construction of a new modern warehouse for the Dar es Salaam Zone.
The modern warehouse, covering an area of 3,900 square meters, is being built in Keko, near MSD Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, and is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Speaking about the project, MSD Director General, Mr. Mavere Tukai, said that the project incorporates modern technologies and renewable energy solutions to improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and support environmental conservation efforts.
He added that all funds required for the implementation of the project are already available, providing assurance that the project will be completed on schedule.
The completion of the warehouse will strengthen MSD’s capacity to store and distribute health commodities, improve service efficiency for customers and stakeholders in the health sector, and enhance the availability of health products to the public.
Furthermore, the project is expected to improve service delivery to customers and health sector stakeholders by enabling better product management and reducing challenges that may arise within the supply chain.
The construction of the Dar es Salaam Zonal Warehouse is part of MSD’s broader plan to continue investing in modern infrastructure, operational reforms, and technology to strengthen access to health commodities and contribute to the national agenda of ensuring quality healthcare services for all Tanzanians.
The project also demonstrates MSD’s commitment to building a sustainable institution with high operational efficiency and effective resource utilization in fulfilling its core mandate of ensuring the timely availability of quality health commodities at affordable costs.
