MSD Board of Trustees Chairperson, Satisfied with Progress of Chato Warehouse Construction,

The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Medical Stores Department (MSD), Ms. Rosemary Silaa, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction of MSD’s new modern warehouse in Chato District, Geita Region, while urging the contractor, Hainan International Company, to ensure strict adherence to the required quality standards and complete the project within the contractual timeframe.
Speaking yesterday, 15 May 2026, during an inspection visit to the project site, Ms. Silaa noted that the warehouse is part of MSD’s broader strategy to strengthen and expand its storage and distribution network across the country, with the aim of ensuring timely and efficient delivery of health commodities to health facilities.
“We are pleased with the level of progress achieved so far; however, it is important for the contractor to ensure that quality standards are fully observed and that the project is completed within the agreed contractual period. This is a critical facility for the improvement of health service delivery in the country,” she said.
Ms. Silaa further stated that the modern warehouse, with a capacity of 4,800 square metres, will play a significant role in improving the distribution of medicines, medical supplies, and other essential health commodities, particularly in the Lake Zone regions.
According to project implementation updates, construction of the warehouse building has reached 42 percent completion, while the office block has reached 58 percent. External works, including the perimeter wall, security building, generator house, waste management facility, and water borehole, are at 46 percent completion.
The project is expected to be completed in October this year. Once finished, it is anticipated to significantly enhance the availability of medicines, medical equipment, and other essential supplies in health facilities across the Lake Zone.
Ms. Silaa emphasized that the investment is part of MSD’s commitment to strengthening the national supply chain infrastructure to ensure reliable, sustainable, and efficient health service delivery that meets the needs of all citizens.
“Completion of this project will greatly facilitate the availability of health commodities, reduce distribution delays, and improve overall efficiency in service delivery to the public,” she added.
MSD continues to implement various strategic projects across the country aimed at strengthening the medical supply chain system as part of the Government’s efforts to ensure quality health services are accessible to all Tanzanians in a timely manner.
