Ministry of Health Satisfied with Progress on Construction of MSD Chato Warehouse

The Ministry of Health has expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction of a new warehouse project for storing health commodities belonging to the Medical Stores Department (MSD), currently being built in Chato District, Geita Region, with the project implementation having reached 65%. This progress stems from the pace of construction adhering to standards and following the planned schedule, a development that creates favorable conditions for the project's timely completion.

This was stated by the Coordinator of the Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) Programme from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Hussein Athumani, during a special visit to inspect the progress of the project's implementation, aimed at assessing the pace of construction and ensuring its execution aligns with the project plans under the Global Fund RSSH programme.

Dr. Hussein Athumani said the Ministry of Health continues to closely oversee the implementation of all projects being carried out through Global Fund financing, to ensure they adhere to quality standards and are completed on time in order to achieve the intended outcomes of strengthening the country's health sector.

Furthermore, the visit provided an opportunity to identify challenges or risks that could affect the project's implementation and to discuss with the implementation team mitigation measures, to ensure the project is completed on time and to the expected quality.

Through the inspection, it was found that a large portion of the foundational work and building infrastructure have been completed, while finishing works are ongoing in order to align with the project's completion calendar as originally outlined in accordance with the contract.

The project is expected to be completed and officially handed over on October 19, 2026, within the implementation period of the Global Fund Cycle 7 project, and is expected to increase MSD's capacity to store health commodities, improve the management of these commodities, and strengthen the efficiency of the country's health supply chain. This will increase the sustainable availability of health services to citizens and contribute to building a strong, resilient, and sustainable health system.
